What if the most famous answer in science fiction history contained a tiny rounding error?
Deep Thought 42: Whoopsie began as a creative challenge: could AI-generated character voices carry a genuinely funny science-fiction story? The result is an original comedy production combining script writing, character creation, voice design and sound production into a complete narrative experience.
Inspired by a simple question:
What happens when the universe finds out that the Ultimate Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, 42, was rounded down?
“The proton-to-electron mass ratio is 1836.15267. The square root of this value is approximately 42.85. Not 42. The universe has been operating on a rounded value, causing microscopic instabilities in the fabric of reality.”
That discovery triggers a cosmic administrative crisis, sending confused citizens, overworked operators and increasingly concerned officials scrambling to understand what happens when the most famous answer in science fiction history turns out to be slightly inaccurate.

About the project
Behind The Production
Deep Thought 42: Whoopsie began as a creative experiment.
The challenge was simple: could a story written specifically for AI-generated character voices still make people laugh, care about the characters and remain engaged with the narrative?
Every element of this production was created by Nigel John Farmer, including the original concept, script writing, character development, AI voice design, dialogue production, sound design and final audio assembly.
Rather than serving as a simple voice demonstration, the project evolved into a complete science-fiction comedy production. It became an opportunity to explore how storytelling, performance and sound design can work together through emerging voice technologies.
The goal was never to demonstrate artificial intelligence for its own sake. The goal was to create an entertaining story and memorable characters using the tools available.
My conclusion?
The soul of a performance is not found in the source of the voice. It is found in the story, the intention and the frequency that reaches the listener.
